Last week, as part of our learning about our community and what is around us, we went to the playground across the road from school. We were excited to learn that the te reo name for Wigram Primary School is Te Piki Kāhu and that the park has the word Kahu in it's name too: Te Kahu Park. In Pūkeko we know what a Kahu bird is because we have Captain Kahu who reminds us of our school HEART values and of what things we should be doing when we are at school. A long time ago there were lots of Kahu in Wigram, that's why our school is called Te Piki Kāhu.
To get to the park we practised safely crossing the road by looking and checking left and right, and listening for if we could hear any cars. We also practised crossing the road at the school crossing, not just anywhere along the street!
When we got to the park we got to play on the swings, on the spider web, on the seesaw and on the slide. We had so much fun! In Pūkeko we love going outside, especially when it is sunny.
Wow that park looks cool! That is great that you learnt about crossing the road safely at the crossing and checking both ways. Did you know it is road safety week this week? On Friday in our whole school hapu time we are going to be doing lots of activities all about how to be safe on and around roads. We like going outside in Weka aswell. We especially like playing in our fort which is a small forest at the back of our school. We like making tacos out of leaves, dirt and moss. Do you have trees you can play in at your school?
