This term we have been using Numicon for our maths learning. We have been learning about the Numicon shapes and practising the colours and numbers they represent. One of the activities we have been doing is covering our Numicon baseboards with the shapes. It is a bit like doing a puzzle. We have to look for pieces that will fit together and that will fit the gaps on the board. We have learnt to start with the bigger shapes and then to use smaller shapes at the end. We sometimes have to turn or flip the shapes to make them fit the gaps we need.
Another of the activities we have enjoyed is making Numicon shape pictures. We have to match the pieces up to see what we can create. Some of our favourites are the rocket ship, the truck and the butterfly. We work together in buddies to make the pictures together. Mrs Wales and Mrs Loye have been proud of our good team work and sharing.
We are enjoying exploring something new and look forward to the other fun learning we will be doing with Numicon this term. When you look at our pictures see if you can spot the different colours: orange, light blue, yellow, light green, red, turquoise, pink, green, purple and blue. What number is pink? What number is turquoise? What number is yellow?
